STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- The Starkville School District has taken part in a school nutrition initiative thats making a lot of cents to and for them.  Starkville is among five other districts in the state to earn 6 Cent Certification.  That means they are in full compliance with new meal guidelines outlined in the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.  The district now receives 6 cents from the federal government for every meal served on campus.  According to child Nutritionist Beverly Lowery, the process involved doing a lot of intense paperwork, like menu worksheets.  “You had to do menu contribution reports. And you had to do nutrition analysis on a week of meals for each grade level. So we actually have three grade levels, K through five, six through eight, and nine through twelve. But I choose to do a little different meal pattern in three or five. So I actually had to submit four meals patterns for lunch and breakfast,” said Beverly Lowery, SSD Nutrition Director.  The district had an increase in food bills, but is receiving $3,500 dollars in federal money.
