STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — They’re fired up about football at Sudduth Elementary in Starkville.

The school hosted a pep rally today to cheer on the town’s two undefeated teams: the Starkville High School Yellowjackets and the Mississippi State University Bulldogs.

Cheerleaders from both schools were there, as well as former Bulldogs Johnie Cooks and Wayne Madkin.

Both say watching their team’s success is exciting and surreal.

“It’s a great time for Starkville,” Madkin said. “I am glad to be back here in the great city of Starkville and the Golden Triangle region. I mean, we got the high school team doing great, my alma mater is doing great at Mississippi State. You can’t ask for anything better.”

“It’s a big weekend for Starkville,” Cooks said. “We got college day in town. We got everybody all excited about it, and I don’t want people to forget we also got the Starkville Yellowjackets, the number one team in the state, playing tonight. So, it’s just a lot of excitement all over Starkville.”

The kindergarten through 2nd graders were all decked in maroon for the festivities.
