COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-As you make your traveling plans for the holidays, you may want to consider leaving your car at home and taking the bus.

For only 32 dollars, you can purchase a one way ticket to the Birmingham International Airport on the ACR Express…65 dollars for a round trip. The ACR Express has only been up and running for a short time, but more people are finding the services a cheaper way to travel.

“It has steadily increased. The people coming and getting the word out. Especially with the Christmas season on the way. See people traveling, its really picked up,” says Randy Futral.

The ACR has been going strong for eight months now. Most of its passengers are students from Mississippi State University and the University of Alabama. Randy and Stephanie, the owners of ACR, are hoping families will use it as an alternative to transportation.

The ACR express has many destinations to choose from between Starkville and Birmingham. They even offer a destination for veterans seeking care.

“We do also have other people going to catch Amtrak or going to the VA hospital. We do offer that service. It’s sort of diverse people going,” says Futral.

Traveling by bus will not only save gas, but it can help prevent stress.

“It’s cheaper. We take care of getting luggage on board. Dropping them curbside at the airport or Amtrak in Birmingham,” says Ming.

“It’s more economic travel with gas. You don’t have to worry about the gas price of it. You go to the airport you don’t have to worry about parking and the convenience of not having to drive,” says Futral,”

In January, the ACR Express will be teaming up with Trailways and Megabus that will allow passengers to head to Atlanta and other destinations offered by those services.
