Fulton Meter Work Getting Under Way

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI) — After weather delays last week, crews hope to begin installing in earnest new high-tech water and gas meters in Fulton this week.

Workers with Siemens Corporation will spend the next two months installing 3,200 water meters and 2,000 gas meters. The work is starting in East Fulton and working across the city

Workers will be wearing uniforms and carrying identification if residents have any questions.

The $3.2 million project will do everything from detect expensive leaks to help catch people stealing water or gas service. It’ll also cut meter-reading time from a month to two days, freeing workers up for other jobs.

The work is funded by a 15-year, low-interest loan the city hopes will be paid back sooner through savings created by the new meters.
