4-County Gives Back

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Grants from the 4-County Foundation will help area organizations and a local school continue their missions.

During a special celebration, the 4-County Electric Power Association Foundation awarded more than $31,000 to five organizations.

The foundation has awarded more than $500,000 in grants since the program started.

The money is raised by rounding bills to the nearest dollars.

The Starkville Area Arts Council was one of today’s, December 4, recipients. The group will use the money for supplies its Children’s Art in the Park event.

“For a lot of children, it’s their first opportunity to play with string instruments to play with clay and a lot of the booths and exhibits are taught by artists. It is a wonderful opportiunity and this grant help us find that,” John Bateman of the Starkville Area Arts Council.

“We could not have done it without the generosity of our members opting in to the program or remaining part of the program and giving that pocket change,” says Jon Turner of 4-County Electric.

Other recipients today include the Frank P. Phillips Memorial YMCA, Golden Triangle Outdoors, Columbus Salvation Army, and Ackerman Elementary School.
