4,200 Mississippi National Guardsmen Set To Deploy

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – 4,200 National Guard Soldiers are set to deploy in support of Operation Spartan Shield.

Members of the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team will ship out in Spring 2018 from Fort Bliss, Texas for a roughly nine month deployment.

Operation Spartan Shield is a Middle Eastern contingency operation based out of the Central Command Theater in Kuwait.

Mississippi’s 155th is headquartered in Tupelo and has stations across the entire state.

The unit has previously been deployed two other times to the Middle East since 2001.

Major General Janson D. Boyles is proud his troops can serve.

“And we’re very proud of the soldiers that are uh achieving those goals and continuing that legacy of the 1-5-5 being the unit you can depend on,” says Maj. Gen. Boyles.

In our viewing area, soldiers from Starkville’s second battalion and Amory’s First Squadron are among those being deployed.
