Webster County sheriff race heads into runoff

WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The race for Webster County sheriff heats up as two of the democratic candidates face off in three weeks for a runoff.

David Gore and Casey Henderson were Tuesday’s primary top getters.

Gore came out on top with 1,112 votes.

Henderson was not too far behind, coming in with 1,023.

This race has been one to watch following a shakeup after former Sheriff Tim Mitchell pled guilty to four felony counts.

Gore said he plans on working hard the next few months ahead of the general election and he added no matter who wins, there’s a lot of tough work ahead.

“We need somebody who’s not afraid to grab the bull by the horns. We need some honesty, we need some organization. And this is all in the sheriff’s department I’m talking about. Law enforcement made this problem and law enforcement has to fix it. We’re going to have to earn the trust of the people in this county again,” said Gore.

Gore and Henderson will see who comes out ahead in the Primary Runoff on August 27th.

That winner will face Republican Candidate Jeffery Mann in the November general election.
