Captain Stacey Deans Benefit kicks off with 5k in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- Dozens of area runners gathered in front of the Tennessee Williams home on Main Street in Columbus Saturday morning for the Captain Stacey Deans Benefit 5k.

Members of the Columbus Community Benefit Committee organized the run as well as a motorcycle ride, catfish dinner lunch, and a mini-concert series throughout the rest of the day to help Officer Deans.

Organizers said it’s important for the community to come together and give back.

“We recognize that when police officers have medical issues, sometimes it really cuts into their ability to support their families. We don’t want that to happen with them. We want to make sure that they can meet all their bills and do all the things that they need to do to sustain life while he’s recovering, so he can come back and continue to serve our community,” said Community Benefit Committee board member Julie Parker.
