18-wheelers crash on Lowndes County highway, one person dead

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Tragedy in Lowndes County after a wreck involving two 18-wheelers.

The crash happened late Wednesday night, in the westbound lanes of Highway 82, near the exit to the Golden Triangle Regional Airport.

Debris could be seen scattered across the highway and into the ditch.

First responders worked late into the night to clear the scene and redirect traffic.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant was on scene. He told WCBI at least one person has died.

Investigators are still figuring out just how the two big rigs collided.
