Area students “Forge Their Own Path”

GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI) – 8th and 9th graders from all over the Golden Triangle got the chance to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty.

It was all part of a hands-on interactive exposition at the EMCC Communiversity center.

The event was called “Forge Your Own Path,” and it featured activities like bricklaying and finishing concrete.

There was also a session for school counselors to come and do some woodworking.

“We’re trying to expose young people to the many career choices that there are. Especially in the construction world. It’s one of the fastest-growing industries around. There’s a lot of work to be done in our state,” said Mississippi Construction Education Foundation President Mike Barkett.

Organizers said over 1,000 students attended the “Forge” event.
