Attala Latest to Review Hospital Options

ATTALA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Attala County may be the latest in Northeast Mississippi to get out of the hospital business.

County supervisors have contracted with a Jackson firm to review the financial security and future options for the county-owned Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.

That includes changing services, leasing to a hospital group or selling the 71-bed facility.

A $14 million expansion and renovation covered 60 thousand square feet in the last two years. Now supervisors say they want to protect taxpayer interests in the changing health care industry.

The first study is expected to be completed in 60 days.

Lowndes County sold its hospital six years ago, Lafayette County followed suit three years ago and Grenada County completed a transfer earlier this month.
