Hawkins won the Republican primary this summer. There was no Democratic challenger.

Hawkins says he is ready to start making plans and to evaluate the priorities of the sheriff’s office.

“Well, I’m just thankful for the citizens here in Lowndes County that believe in me and I look forward to getting out here and doing a good job and see if we can make a change and make a difference here in Lowndes County,” said Hawkins.

Hawkins won with 64 percent of the vote.
