7 Mayors In Seven Days

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) – Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton got married over the weekend and, while he’s away for his honeymoon, the city will have seven different people serving in the mayor’s office in seven days’ time.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/20QvnKY) Shelton signed an order last week designating that each member of the city council will serve as mayor – each on a specific day.

Shelton’s absence means he’ll miss the annual Elvis Fest, which begins Thursday and ends Saturday. Council member Buddy Palmer will offer an official welcome to festival-goers on Friday – his day as mayor.

City Communications Director Leesha Faulkner said Tupelo Chief Operations Officer Don Lewis will remain on the job throughout the week.
