SPC MARGINAL RISK THROUGH TONIGHT
TODAY: A few scattered showers possible area-wide, with the greatest rain chance in north and northwest Mississippi. With showers and storms training back to back across Benton, Tippah, and Alcorn counties, flash flooding remains a possibility this afternoon and tonight. An additional 3+ inches of rain could fall in those counties between now and Saturday morning. A threat for one or two strong to marginally severe storms will exist this afternoon and evening across the northern and western part of our area (see spc marginal risk). High temperatures climb to the upper 60s and lower 70s. Overall rain coverage around 40% for our viewing area. Overnight, lows drop to around 60 with rain slowly but surely pushing further southeast through the rest of the night and into Saturday morning.
SATURDAY: Heavier rain enters our viewing area Saturday morning. Some spots could see localized flooding, especially north of US-278 and west of the Natchez Trace Parkway. Conditions do NOT support severe weather Saturday. Highs around 60°. Rain coverage at or above 90%. We dry out late Saturday afternoon and overnight. Lows in the upper 30s.
CHRISTMAS EVE/DAY: Highs in the upper 40s to 50°. Sun begins to break out Sunday, with sunny skies by Monday. Overnight lows both Sunday and Monday in the 20s.
TUESDAY: A few clouds re-enter the mix. Highs in the low 50s, with overnight lows in the low to mid 30s.
WED/THU: Models with some disagreement about the timing of our next rain, but it should come Wednesday and/or Thursday. Highs in the low to mid 50s, with an overnight low Wednesday in the mid 30s. Cloudy both days, with a rain chance of around 30% both Wednesday and Thursday.
