Starkville Millsap’s FFA Hosts Weekend Rodeo

STARKVILLE, Miss (WCBI) – Tonight the Starkville Millsap’s FFA Chapter kicked off their annual FFA Rodeo.  Cowboys and cowgirls from all across the southeast came to compete in events including barrel racing, calf roping and steer wrestling.

There were even events for the kids, including a pig and a calf scramble.

The rodeo is a benefit event to help provide college scholarships for Starkville High School students and to help support students career and leadership development events.

“The FFA Chapter helps develop students by giving them hands-on experiences in agriculture.  There are also tremendous leadership opportunities for students to get involved in, and we really see students who go through our program become valuable members in the community,” said FFA Alumni President Tyler Fortenberry.

Funds raised will also help send FFA members to leadership events in Mississippi and around the country.

“It’s a great family fun event.  There’s something there for everyone and you’ll enjoy a great competition.  The competitors are from all over the southeast and are some of the best from our region,” Starkville Millsap’s FFA Chapter President Chele Westbrook.

“Plus it’s great to support the FFA members in the community.  The funds we raise will be used to help support our FFA members graduating this year with scholarships.  We’ll also send students to different leadership conferences and to our State FFA Convention in June.”

If you missed the event tonight, you can go again tomorrow night.  The Saturday Night rodeo starts at 7:30 P.M at the Kovered K Arena in Maben.  That is located west of Starkville on Highway 82 in Oktibbeha County.

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
