A unique kind of graduation

ALCORN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Alcorn County Correctional Facility and Northeast Mississippi Community College have teamed up the past three semesters to give inmates a “leg-up” when they’re released from jail.

12 inmates completed the “Jail to Jobs” program Wednesday afternoon.

For the past 15 weeks, they have taken college level classes through the community college, earning six hours of credits.

Inmates in the program also take the Work Keys assessment to help enhance the skills they’ll need in the workplace.

Program coordinators hope this will give them an advantage when they are released.
