Abandoned Service Station Fire

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- Lowndes County Fire crews are trying to figure out what started a morning fire at an abandoned gas station in the eastern part of the county Wednesday morning.

Lowndes County Fire Coordinator Neil Austin, says around 4:30 Wednesday morning crews were called to a service station on 182 near the Alabama State Line.

Austin says the station hasn’t been in operation for two or three years.

The blaze prompted a short closure of the west bound lanes, but the lanes reopened quickly.

The owner of the property is out of town according to fire officials.

Fortunately no one was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
