Accident Call Leads To Animal Cruelty Arrest

CLAY CO., Miss. (WCBI) – Deputies respond to an accident on Highway 47 and a man winds up in jail on multiple charges, including animal cruelty.

On April 8, Clay County Sheriff’s deputies charged 39-year-old James Curtis Woods with DUI – 3rd offense, driving with a suspended license, no insurance, and animal cruelty.

Sheriff Eddie Scott says the animal cruelty charge stems from deputies finding a pit bull in a cage in the back end of the truck. The dog was bleeding and had injurues consistent with dogfighting.

The dog was taken to West Point Animal Control for further treatment.

Woods remains in the Clay County Detention Center.
