Afternoon wreck leaves one injured

CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI)- First responders on the scene of an accident said a Vernon, Alabama teen is lucky to be alive after her car slams into a tree.

The accident happened Saturday just after 3 p.m. in Caledonia.

The unidentified 18-year old female was traveling west on Highway 12.

Family members on the scene said she was headed to Columbus from Vernon, Alabama for work.

First responders believed the wet weather caused her car to hydroplane and spin around, before slamming into a tree on the passenger’s side.

The 18-year old was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
