Alabama’s Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WCBI)- There’s been no change in Alabama’s unemployment rate.

According to the Alabama Department of Labor, the state’s unemployment stands at 6.1 percent as of May.

The unemployment numbers remain unchanged from both April’s rate, and the rate in May of last year.

Governor Robert Bentley says more people in Alabama are working today than a month ago, and more people are looking for work–a sign that the state is on the right track.

65 out of Alabama’s 67 counties experienced no change or a decrease in their rate over the
year.

In our area, Pickens County’s jobless rate is 6.6 percent.

Lamar County’s unemployment comes in at 5.6 percent.
