Alcorn County Inmate Dies In Jail

CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – Alcorn County Sheriff Charles Rinehart says an inmate has died at the county jail in an apparent suicide.

The inmate has been identified as 31-year-old Michael Frazier.

Rinehart tells the Daily Corinthian ( http://bit.ly/12tU8Os ) that he was notified at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday that the inmate had been found dead of a hanging in his cell. Rinehart says Frazier was being held in isolation, and a jail employee had last checked at 10:50 p.m. and noted the inmate was lying on his bunk.

Rinehart says Frazier left behind a written letter but he declined to say what was in it. Authorities did not say why Frazier was in jail.

An autopsy will be performed.

Rinehart says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate.
