American Legion Lunch Hosts First National Female Commander

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The American Legion’s first national female commander visits the Post 69 in Columbus today, February 19.

Dozens of Veterans came out to Post 69 to hear Denise Rohan speak about the importance of the American Legion.

The Mississippi State President of Student Affairs Association Charles Pearman, says today was about being able to hear Rohan speak, which allows the Columbus post to bridge the gap between what’s happening at a national, state, and local level.

He says he hopes Vets learned the importance of being able to connect to the American Legion’s National Commander and National Headquarters.

“That’s one thing that we have difficulty seeing. A lot of times, as a local chapter, or as a local post, we look internally and we only look here, but it’s very important to be able to see what resources are out there to strengthen us, and then in turn to be able to strengthen our community.”

After the National Commander spoke, lunch was served to the veterans.
