Amory Police distribute ID cards to area children

AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – A long line at the Amory Walmart Thursday but not for shopping.

For another year, Amory Police partners with Walmart to distribute child ID cards.

The ID’s were offered to children under the age of 15 and are complete with the child’s information, should that child go missing.

Police say in past years of using these ID’s, lost children have been reunited with family at a faster rate.

“It’s helped us out tremendously. Here at Walmart, kids are always ducking in. We get calls all the time from, you know, different convenient stores. This has an ID card with all of their information on it there, and all they have to do is present that to officers and we also have a photo immediately available,” said Lt. Nicholaus Weaver.

The ID cards were distributed from noon to four Thursday afternoon.
