LEATHERWOOD’s arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that was conducted by Tishomingo Sheriff’s Department K9 Deputy, Scott Dalton. Deputy Dalton and LEATHERWOOD got in a struggle during the course of finding alleged MARIJUANA on his person. LEATHERWOOD then left out running with the deputy trying to catch him. LEATHERWOOD then attempted to get inside another person’s vehicle as it slowed down when it came up on the traffic stop. LEATHERWOOD was unable to get inside the vehicle and began running across both EAST and WEST bound lanes of HWY 72 headed North. LEATHERWOOD had lost his shoes during his run and also removed his shirt before entering the woods that were just WEST of the Tishomingo County High School.

School officials were notified of the incident due to a ball game going on in the gymnasium. Several law enforcement agencies participated in the search of the Suspect as well as respond to the officer. Deputy Dalton received minor injuries to his wrist and arm and was released by the NMMC-Iuka. LEATHERWOOD was apprehended a few hours later around the parking lot of the high school. LEATHERWOOD attempted to flee again but was unable due to the number of officers that were already in the area and the terrain. On scene paramedics checked the condition of LEATHERWOOD since he was out in the cold without shoes or a shirt on and also had several cuts on his body from being in the woods. LEATHERWOOD was cleared by the paramedics and was then transported to the Tishomingo County Jail. LEATHERWOOD was again carried back to the NMMC-Iuka for another evaluation to which he was cleared by medical staff.

The driver of the vehicle, LINDA RENEE MCAFFEE, 33-year-old white female, of 210 CR 250 Corinth, Mississippi, was arrested for NO DRIVERS LICENSE. MCAFFEE was transported to the Tishomingo County Jail for not having a valid driver’s license and also she has outstanding WARRANTS from the City of Corinth.
