ATTALA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The trial for a man charged with the murder in the death of a well-known Attala County car dealer will be reset for later this year.

Theodus Barnett, 39, had been scheduled for trial Feb. 4 for capital murder in the May 2007 death of Danny Tavares at his car lot on Highway 12. His body was discovered May 25, 2007.

But Attala County Circuit Court officials say the trial will be reset while the court reviews motions and to give attorneys more time to prepare.

Barnett was arrested two years ago in Memphis where he was being held on separate kidnapping and aggravated assault charges. Attala investigators found him when DNA evidence from the scene mathed Barnett’s in a national DNA database.
