Attorney For Ronnie Shumpert’s Family Speaks

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The attorney for Ronnie Shumpert’s family held a press conference Thursday. The family is currently pursuing a federal investigation for Tupelo police officer Tyler Cook.

A grand jury did not indict Cook after the city said Cook fired his weapon four times in self-defense, fatally shooting Ronnie Shumpert on June 18.

Attorney Carlos Moore says the family is disappointed that Cook returned to work last week on administrative duty.

Moore has previously said he’d like to see the FBI get involved, but agents they’ve spoken to have not had much info.

“He does not know how long it’s going to take for the review,” Moore said Thursday of an agent with whom he spoke.

Those angered by the events have held many marches and protests in Tupelo in the past three months.
