Autopsy: Inmate Died Of Cardiovascular Disease

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man found dead in a Chickasaw County jail cell died from cardiovascular disease.

Chickasaw County Coroner Mike Fowler says the heart disease was found when an autopsy was performed on James Brownlee, 57.

Brownlee was found unresponsive in a cell last week.

He was arrested by state troopers and charged with DUI and other offenses.

Family members claimed law enforcement failed to get him proper medical treatment.

Chickasaw County Sheriff James Meyers says proper protocol was followed when Brownlee was booked into the jail.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating Brownlee’s death.
