Baptist Golden Triangle Gets High Safety Marks

COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) — Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle recently received a hospital safety score of “A” from the Leapfrog Group.

The safety score is calculated based on several core measures, including safe practice measures, surgical care improvement project measures and patient safety indicators and rates how well a hospital protects its patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

The Leapfrog Group annually grades hospitals across the United States for safety. Of the 35 facilities graded in Mississippi this year, only three received an ‘A’ rating, including Baptist Golden Triangle. Also receiving an “A” were hospitals in Biloxi and Bay St. Louis.

“We are very proud to offer a safe hospital environment to our patients,” said Paul Cade, administrator and CEO of Baptist Golden Triangle. “We work hard every day to provide safe, high -quality, patient-focused care to everyone we treat.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national non-profit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel and the Hospital Safety Score calculate scores for hospitals across the nation, giving hospitals an A, B, C, D or F based on the data.

“Safety should come first for our families when we pick a hospital, because errors and infections are common and deadly,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group. “No hospital is perfect, but we congratulate the board, clinicians, administration and staff of Baptist Golden Triangle for achieving an “A” and showing us that they make the well-being of their patients their top priority,” she added.

“The fact that we recently celebrated going more than 63 months without a ventilator associated pneumonia and more than 43 months without a central line associated blood stream infection in our Critical Care Unit, is a testament to the quality of care delivered by our staff,” said Cade.

With 315 beds, Baptist Golden Triangle is the largest regional hospital affiliated with the Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care system. More than 100 physicians and surgeons, who represent almost every medical specialty, practice at the hospital, which offers a full range of comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages.

The hospital offers a variety of services to the community, including the Baptist Cancer Center-Golden Triangle, Baptist Behavioral Health Care-Golden Triangle for those with behavioral and mental health problems, an emergency room with 24-hour ambulance service, an extensive rehabilitation department, and educational programs.
