Bomb Threat Hoax Targets Local School District

ACKERMAN, Miss. (WCBI)- From Atlanta to Alaska to Ackerman, a bomb threat hoax targets hundreds of businesses and schools across the U.S.  including the Choctaw County School District.

Ackerman Police Chief Tim Cook said they first got a call about the alleged bomb threat around 2:30 Thursday evening.

According to Cook, someone sent an email to the Choctaw County School District, demanding they give them $20,000, if not or a bomb was going to explode inside the central office building.

In all, the school district received three emails from an unknown user.

Once on scene, investigators made everyone inside the central office evacuate the building, as well as nearby businesses.

For an hour, police combed through building and investigated the incident, before realizing the alleged bomb threat was not legitimate and was only a scam.

Once everything settled and investigators realized it was just a hoax, everyone was able to go back inside and resume their day.

Cook admits, the threat gave everyone a scare.

However, he said it’s a sigh of realize to knowing the threat wasn’t legitimate.

“It’s just funny how it came here and was at the superintendents office,” said Chief Cook. “You don’t know how they went about choosing who they were going to send it, but it seems right now that this is the only local place that it’s been sent to here in Mississippi.”

This case has now been handed over to the FBI.
