State Supreme Court Disqualifies Union County Candidate

NEW ALBANY, MS (WCBI) – Roger Browning is not going to be allowed to run for Union County Superintendent of Education.   The Mississippi Supreme Court Thursday overturned a Union County Circuit Court order placing Browning’s name on the November ballot as the Republican nominee.   The dispute arose because Browning lives in the New Albany School District but was seeking the county spot.   The Union County Election Commission disqualified Browning because of a federal ruling from 2003 that specifically banned New Albany School District residents from running for the County Superintendent post.  In today’s decision, The Mississippi  Supreme Court also said no rehearing of the ruling would be allowed since the election is less than a week away and that any votes cast for Browning would not be counted
