BREAKING – Two Dead After Bank Robbery Goes Wrong

MANTACHIE (WCBI) – A bank teller and a bank robber are both dead following a failed hold up attempt in Mantachie.  It all started just after 10 AM at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Mantachie.   That’s where the robbery went wrong and the teller was shot to death.    Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson identifies the bank employee as Judy Guin.   The suspect then fled the scene down Highway 363 towards Saltillo.   Officers and deputies from multiple agencies joined in the pursuit and pinned the fleeing suspect down in Saltillo.  

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says that’s when the female suspect took her own life before being  taken into custody.    Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green identifies the suspect as 28 year old Ashlee Smith originally of Pontotoc.
