Brookhaven Borrows Money for Sewer Improvements

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) – The city of Brookhaven will borrow $2.5 million to fund sewer and water improvements in newly annexed areas.

City Clerk Mike Jinks tells The Daily Leader  that some sewer and water limes at 80 years to 90 years old.

The board of aldermen approved the bond issue this week.

Jinks says the bond funds will pay for improving the existing system and to match two grants to provide water and sewer services to people that were annexed and don’t have city water and sewer.

Jinks says the project won’t fix all the problems but it’s going to fix the worst problems.

He says the city recently paid off a bond issue, so current tax rates are expected to cover the new bond.
