LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A two-vehicle accident claims the life of a Noxubee County man on Highway 45 Alternate in Lowndes County.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchants says Ephalia Jefferson, 52, of Brooksville, was killed when his 1992 Pontiac Bonneville was rear-ended by a northbound 18-wheeler owned by Big M Transportation in Blue Springs and driven by 40-year-old David Stephan of Tupelo.

The truck driver told state troopers the car slowed to turn into a scrap yard near the old Holcim Cement Plant. The truck driver attempted to move over to pass the car but another car was passing the truck, blocking its path.

The car spun around and landed in the median.

Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was not injured.

The accident happened about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.
