Bruce City Council Votes In New Police Chief

BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI)- The city of Bruce has announced its new police chief.

Earlier this year, long time chief, Stan Evans passed away after his long battle with cancer.

Mayor Rudy Pope says council voted Tony Sockwell as the new chief of police.

Sockwell has been with Bruce PD since 2008. He’s been in law enforcement though, since 2000 where he worked for the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, council voted in Brian Roberts to hold the position as Assistant Police Chief.

Mayor Pope says this is the first time they’ve had an official Assistant Police Chief position.
