JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said Wednesday that he wants the state to resist any presidential order that might restrict gun rights.

Republican Bryant made the call shortly before President Barack Obama issued 23 executive orders designed to curb gun violence.

“I am asking that you immediately pass legislation that would make any unconstitutional order by the President illegal to enforce in Mississippi by state or local law enforcement,” Bryant wrote in a letter to Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and House Speaker Philip Gunn, who are also Republicans.

Bryant said in the letter that he believes any gun-control executive order by Obama “infringes our constitutional right to keep and bear arms as never before in American history.”

I totally disagree with Governor Bryant’s statement. This is easy for him to say since those were not his children or grandchildren mowed down with bullets while attending school. He should tell this to the 20 parents who buried their six year olds and the six families who said good-bye to their loved ones much too soon. This is not a 2nd ammendment issue. This is a being defient to the President Obama Adminstration at all cost issue! Even if someone else’s children has to die in the process-so be it. No wonder the rest of the nation views southern states as gun clinging hateful people!
It is statements like this from our elected officials that lend credibilty to these opinions. We’ll fight to death over our rights to have guns, but we won’t cross the street to help a person in need! These type of statements only serve to farther divide this country along politic lines. It is not about your party, it is about putting a stop to the use of assult weapons to commit these horric crimes! When will we drop our prejuidce and hate long enough to the right thing for a change? Those who live by the sword, die by the sword! Violenec only begets violence! Proverbs 16:2 from the Living Bible version states “We can always “prove” that we are right, but is the LORD convinced? Selah!
