STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Imagine creating an elevator that could transport cargo clear into outer space.

Some high school students in Starkville are literally reaching for the stars.

Millsaps Boosting, Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics Team has spent weeks creating a machine that carry a payload into the stratosphere and beyond.

40 young people are on the team.

They showed off their work Thursday (10-4).

At the end of the month, they will face statewide competition.

MSU is hosting that event, but it will be held at Armstrong Middle School.
