Bullet Hits School Bus, Student in Panola County

BATESVILLE, Miss. (AP) – A bullet struck a Panola County school bus, hitting at least one student in the back.

Authorities told The Panolian (http://bit.ly/VN8DuU) a second-grader was transported by helicopter Monday to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis. Witnesses say the child was walking after the incident, suggesting the injury was not critical.

It was unclear whether anyone else was hurt.

The bullet went through a side window of the South Panola bus, carrying about 15 students when the incident occurred.

It was not clear whether the bus was a target or if a stray bullet hit the vehicle. Panola County Sheriff Dennis L. Darby was not immediately available for comment.
