Burger Battle Set For Tupelo

PRESS RELEASE

TUPELO, Miss. – Mitchell Distributing and the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association are excited to bring the first Bud and Burgers competition to Tupelo on Friday, April 1. This new event will allow local restaurants, as well as home cooks, to assemble teams to compete for prizes as well as the new “Best Burger in Tupelo” award.

Bud and Burgers, which will be located on South Broadway Street, will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi selling hamburger plate lunches for $8 until 1 p.m. The event will then take a break until 5 p.m. when the burger competition will begin. The competition will include two divisions – a professional chef division as well as an open competition to home cooks from around the Tupelo area.

The event will also be open to the public and people will have the opportunity to sample burgers from the participating teams. The night event will include live music and Budweiser products available for purchase for those 21 years old and over. The Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi will continue to sell hamburger plates for $8 during the night event. Soft drinks and water will also be available for sale.

“We at Mitchell Distributing are incredibly excited about this event and think it’ll be a great way for people to come out and enjoy a night in downtown Tupelo for a wonderful cause,” said

Anna Grace Ward, communications manager for Mitchell Companies. “We recently put this event together in our Meridian markets and had an excellent turnout from the community. We’re looking forward to partnering with the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association and having this same success in Tupelo.”

It’s very exciting to add another event to downtown Tupelo for the community to enjoy,” said Debbie Brangenberg, director of the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association. “We look for a great laid back outdoor atmosphere and backyard burger experience, as well as a great opportunity to partner with the Boys and Girls Club of North Mississippi and Mitchell Distributing.”

Teams of four will compete in the home cook division for great prizes and awards including People’s Choice and Best in Show, where attendees can vote on their favorites, plus first, second, and third places from the judges. The professional division will be competing for the “Best Burger in Tupelo” award, which will be a traveling trophy that winners of the event will have to compete to retain each year. Blind judging will be based on flavor and presentation of the burger.

To enter the burger cook-off, teams of four will need to pay a $50 entry fee by March 23 at the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association office located at 108 South Broadway Street. Team registration forms are also available on the Mitchell Distributing and Downtown Tupelo Main Street Facebook pages. Attendees of Bud and Burgers must pay a $5 admission fee for the night event.
