Businesses on airport property now required to pay property taxes

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – More revenue will soon start generating in Lowndes County.

This after a law allowing businesses on airport property is now reversed.

Governor Bryant singed into Senate Bill 2802 into law Wednesday.

The bill requires businesses on airport property to now pay property taxes.

This bill was important to area legislators because several industries are on the Golden Triangle Regional Airport’s property.

The tax exemption cost the county and the Lowndes County School District thousands of dollars.

Representative Jeff Smith said previously this change could save the school district around 1.4 million a year.
