Calhoun County precinct faces ballot issue

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Calhoun County voters faced problems when attempting to cast their ballot for the GOP governor primary runoff.

Circuit Clerk Carlton Baker said he was first made aware of the problem Tuesday morning.
He said voter called his office to let him know about a machine that was changing her vote.

A few hours later a poll worker at a precinct in Vardaman was called to assist a different voter experiencing the same problem.

Bakers said his team immediately got to work.

“I sent the tech that assists me with elections and everything from the county and everything she went to the precinct from earlier this morning and couldn’t find any issues with that machine. She tested it, checked it out, everything. We couldn’t find any issues but we ended up taking the precinct, the machine at the precinct around lunchtime at the Vardaman Precinct out of service, because we still have plenty of machines available,” said Baker.

Baker said after a few tries both voters were able to cast their ballots for their chosen candidates.
