Calhoun County schools hosts suicide prevention program

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Navigating high school and teen years can be tricky.

That’s why teachers and counselors in Calhoun County want students to take care of their mental health.

The Calhoun County schools are providing students with the resources they need.

Communicare and the family crisis team presented the county schools a program to bring awareness to suicide prevention.

Videos show students steps to take if they notice a friend or even themselves taking a dark turn.

Organizers want to give students an outlet and a voice.

“It’s on the rise we see it every day in statistics and we want to make sure that our children like I said they know that we have outlets and resources that are readily available here,” said intervention specialist Nicole Chandler.

The counselors and mental health specialists visited all the Calhoun County high schools today.

They wrapped up with students planting a crepe myrtle at each school.
