Capital Murder suspect makes first court appearance

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- The man accused of Capital Murder in the shooting death of a Starkville optometrist was in court Thursday.

William Chisholm, 41, appeared before a judge just days after a terrifying shooting inside the Starkville Walmart.

After being delayed due to the weather, Chisholm made his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon in Starkville Municipal Court.

Prosecutors have added another charge against Chisholm.

Chisholm is also now facing an Aggravated Assault charge according to Police Chief Frank Nichols.

The affidavit was read in court and states, another employee was grazed by a bullet as shots rang out inside the Starkville Wal-Mart early Saturday morning.

“One of the employees, another employee inside of the store, we did find out that a garment she was wearing had a bullet hole in it,” said Chief Nichols.

Chisholm is being held without bond on the Capital Murder charge.

As far as the Aggravated Assault charge, the judge set bond at $100,000.

Chief Nichols says Chisolm is also being charged with Malicious Mischief for kicking out a window of a police unit while going to the jail.

Chisolm’s next court date is set for January 22nd at 6 p.m in Starkville Municipal Court.
