Carroll County roadblock leads to drug, firearm possession arrest

AVALON, Miss. (WCBI) – There were no treats for a Greenwood man at a Halloween roadblock in Carroll County.

A highway patrolman noted a suspicious-looking VIN plate on a vehicle at a safety checkpoint on Highway 7 near Avalon.

While Carroll County deputies were checking the vehicle out, they reportedly spotted a plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana sticking out from under a seat.

After the driver got out of the vehicle, deputies found the bag had about half a pound of marijuana in it. The driver was also carrying a Glock handgun.

They arrested Markhale Deondre Darby of Greenwood and charged him with felony possession of marijuana enhanced by a firearm.

Darby has since been released on a $20,000 bond.
