Home-Going Service Held For Elementary Student Who Was Killed Getting Off Her School Bus

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-It was last Tuesday when seven year old A’Miya Braxton was struck and killed by an SUV right as she was getting off her school bus.
On Sunday, the family held a funeral service for Braxton as she was laid to rest.

Braxton might have only been seven years old but she touched a lot of lives in that short span, and there was evidence of that during her funeral service.

More than 500 people came out to be apart of the homegoing service.

Emotions were running high in the room as tears came down the faces of family members, and classmates.

Many took the podium to pay tribute to Braxton.

She was remembered during the reciting of a poem, in song and in dance.  Braxton’s classmates created signs, cards, and brought flowers that were all on display to honor her.
They also created hand written messages for their fellow classmate, and faculty members at North Pontotoc Elementary School brought in the desk that she used to sit in everyday during class.

During the service, her teachers took the podium to talk about how they remembered their honor roll student, who they described as a “happy” person who was always engaged in the classroom.

After the eulogy, Braxton’s parents were given a few gifts that came from their daughters classmates.

By the end of the service, family members had turned their tears into smiles, because even though they lost a loved one, they can now rejoice knowing heaven has gained a new angel.
