Chief Oscar Lewis To Retire

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – An unnamed city source tells WCBI that Columbus Police Chief Oscar Lewis has submitted his retirement paperwork.

According to the source, Lewis will retire at the end of the year.

Columbus spokesman Joe Dillon has also confirmed this news.

Lewis submitted his retirement letter at 4 p.m. today.

Lewis was hired last January.

City councilmen recently created a list of improvement benchmarks for Lewis to meet within the department.

At the Decemeber 19th city council meeting, Mayor Robert Smith will ask councilmen to appoint Assistant Chief Fred Shelton as interim chief.
