Ackerman, Miss. (WCBI) — Today marked the first day of the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce’s 12 Days of Christmas, where local stores will have special prices to help people with their holiday shopping.

The Mississippi State University Extension Service also hosted it’s Holiday Open House at the Choctaw County Library, an event organizers say they’ve been running for more than 20 years.

“We have over 400 youth and adults come through…”, said M.S.U. Extension Service County Coordinator Juli Hughes, “…for a small county like Choctaw County, that’s a really big number of people coming through for an event.”

The event gave families the chance to vote for their favorite Christmas tree from different organizations, as well as the chance to make some arts and crafts.

This year’s open house hosted it’s first ugly Christmas sweater contest.

“I think it’s really sweet because you get to see all these little kids come and sit in Santa’s lap…and tell him what they want for Christmas…”, said 4H volunteer Korie Prescott.
