Cirque de Soleil “CRYSTAL’ Combines Ice And Acrobatics For A Unique Experience

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – World class ice skaters and acrobats are demonstrating their skills at the first experience on ice from Cirque de Soleil.

“Crystal” is a new kind of performance from “Cirque de Soleil. ”

It opens this evening at the Bancorpsouth Arena in Tupelo and some of the skaters and acrobats were on hand for a media preview.

The touring show focuses on its lead character, “Crystal” who is on a quest to discover herself as she explores a world where ice is transformed into a series of scenes.

The ice also becomes a projection canvas that help telling the story with “Crystal.”

Performers ice skate and do acrobatics.

“I’ve been doing swinging trapeeze for ten years now, but on skates, first time for me and also a first for Cirque de Soleil. It was a good challenge to learn to skate, I did skate a little bit during the winter time with my family, but nothing like having to perform on skates, or tricks or anything like that,” said Danica Gagnon Plamondon, who portrays “Crystal.”

“A lot of the acrobatics have never been done before and the ice aspect brings a lot of speed and motion that are really unique to this production, but it’s also an experience,” said Julie Desmarais, tour publicist for “Crystal.”

Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton proclaimed today as “CRYSTAL Day” in honor of the show and its four day run in Tupelo.  He presented a proclamation to cast members.
