City Of Columbus Pays Tribute To 9/11
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The tragic events that took place September 11, 2001 still remains fresh on a lot of peoples minds.
Sunday afternoon, the city of Columbus came together for a moment of silence in remembrance for 9/11.
It was followed by the singing of the national anthem.
Columbus assistant Police Chief, Fred Shelton was also present, and shared a few words regarding the importance of remembering those who gave their lives on this day 15 years ago.
“We want to make sure we honor them because there are new people who are coming into service who were probably babies when it happened, they didn’t even know it happened and they didn’t even know about it,” said Shelton. “But we have to leave that legacy and remind them what happened on that day, why it’s important, and why we need to continue to be strong and to keep America strong by volunteering.”
Dozens of local area high school students attended Shelton’s speech.
