City Leaders Appoint New Member To Columbus Municipal School Board

Columbus, Miss. (WCBI)- During Tuesday’s Columbus City Council meeting, the Board of Aldermen voted to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Columbus School Board.

In an unanimous decision, the council appointed Yvonne Cox to fill the position.

Cox will be replacing Angela Verdell who announced she would not seek reappointment.

Cox said she’s excited to be on the board and is looking to help the district get moving in the right direction.

“This is how we have to do it, you have got to take yourself out of the picture. It’s not about me, it’s not about any of the board members, it’s not even about the new superintendent, it’s about what’s best for our children and our children being prepared for their future, said Cox, newly appointed board member.

Council members will also have to find a replacement for former trustee Currie Fisher who resigned earlier this month.

The city council is could fill her position as early as next month.
