Clown Claims Appear To Be Hoax

STARKVILLE – Our agencies would like to address recent information that is circulating on social media networks about clown sightings.

The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office received two “third-party” calls about a clown in the Highlands on September 19, 2016. Neither caller was a direct witness, but stated they were calling for friends. Follow up investigation has revealed that both numbers used to report the incident are now out of service. At this point the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office believes that these were hoax calls that have since been exacerbated on social media. There were no other direct witness sightings reported to either agency.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office at 662-323-2421, Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151
